The Ithaca Writers Institute brings together promising high school student writers to celebrate, study, and practice the creation of literature in the legendary town that has inspired Pearl S. Buck, Toni Morrison, Kurt Vonnegut, E.B. White, Vladimir Nabokov, and countless other literary giants who have called Ithaca home for over a century. This immersive program provides an authentic college atmosphere through a distinguished faculty member from Ithaca College's Department of Writing, supported by the department's most talented undergraduates, delivering a curriculum that mirrors the college's own unique approach to literary education. Set in a town so rich with literary history that downtown Tioga Street earned the nickname "Writer's Block," students will hone their craft in the same inspiring environment where famous authors found their muses, laying the foundation for a successful life of writing while experiencing firsthand what it means to be part of Ithaca's extraordinary literary legacy.

polyphony Lit: Summer Editing Apprenticeship

The Summer Editing Apprenticeship offers rising 9th-12th-grade students a transformative five-week part-time online program that develops advanced knowledge in literary editing while preparing participants for senior editorial roles at Polyphony Lit or their high school literary magazines. This comprehensive program connects students with a vibrant global community of peer writers and readers through engaging asynchronous training modules, dynamic live lectures, collaborative group discussions, and hands-on weekly assignments that include responding to actual author submissions to Polyphony Lit. More than just technical skill development, this apprenticeship allows students to develop and celebrate their unique editorial voices in a fun and rewarding environment, building the expertise and confidence needed to shape literary works while fostering meaningful connections with fellow young literary enthusiasts from around the world.
